Tennis Ball Poi

I have made a simple system that utilizes tennis balls for Poi. This system incorporates a chain swivel connecting to split rings on both sides of the tennis ball. The split rings allow for quick attachments for quick links or cording as well as for fabric to add Poi tails. This system allows you to wrap glow stick rings easily by securing them in the split rings.

Incendiary Circus Demo Reel

I plunged in and learned to use Sony Vegas 8, a non-linear video editing software. I have created Incendiary Circus’ first demo reel. You may view it here http://www.icfire.org/ic-demo-reel.html

2 in 1 Practice Sock Poi

2-in-1 Practice Soc Poi (soft)

$10/pair

These are great for learning, and don’t hurt when you hit yourself. Also, they make a great stress reliever and wrist-strengthening toy. They are squeezable. So you get 2-in-1 uses out of these.

I will have these available at classes or at open sessions.

Incendiary Circus Sponsored Open Spin Jams

Open Sessions sponsored by Incendiary Circus, Element 11, and Utah Art Alliance. Unsupervised and no instructions, but it seems like I’m always showing some kind of move with Poi. You can share and learn from each other.

Indoors, mirrors, music, and bathrooms. Get your fire on. Soon it will be Element 11 and Burning Man.

Every Sunday until Mid-March/April.

7-9 PM.

$2 donation requested, goes to Utah Art Alliance to help cover eletrical and gas expenses.

Besides Poi, Staffs and Hoops, other spinners have nunchucks, meteors and martial-arts. Open to all spinners and stilters. Pass this forward to anyone you know that would be interested.

Directions

The building is by 569 West 600 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111 (It’s really not the address, but that is the closest numbered visible from the street.)

The best way to find this place.

If coming off the 600 South exit from I-15, take a right on 400 West
Take a right on 700 South.
Drive to 600 west. Take a right to 600 South
Turn right (East) on 600 South. (It’s a one way street)
Take the first right into a parking lot. There is a basketball net in the parking lot.
The door is unmarked and located in the south/west corner. (It is NOT the door that is labled 569).

Winter Spinning

It seems everytime winter comes around the cold really puts a damper on the desire to practice if you have no indoor space. It’s during this time of year that I really envy people that live in more temperate zones. How I would love to be 50 degrees. Performing New Years Eve at First Night in Salt Lake City with Incendiary Circus was a blast, but was it cold. Lucky for us, we have fire to warm us up, but I feel bad for the musicians who had to play in that kind of cold. Here is to warmer weather.

My Intentions for a Poi and Staff Learning Site

I’m repositing this from another blog I intended to run but lack of time and motivation seemed to have hampered me.

Poi Palace was born with the idea of sharing my passion for fire Poi and fire Staff as well as all fire twirling, spinning, and dancing.

I was first introduced to Poi at Burning Man. The annual Labor Day weekend festival that creates a temporary city of 35,000+ people for radical self-expression and leave no trace event.

I have now been seriously training for over a year and would consider myself an intermediate/advance student in the art of poi.

I have spent hours and hours online looking for free Poi lessons and instructions as well as finding the best fire poi equipment available. I am hoping to open a studio and shop one day.

I hope to make my site, not only a place I can share my learning and passion for Poi, but also keep a centralized depository of all links, sites and resources related to fire Poi and Staff.

Thank you for visiting the site, and I hope you found it to be useful.

Performance Insurance for fire spinners and entertainers

Now that you are ready to do public performances in public spaces besides your backyard or some clandestine location it is a wise decision to get fire performer insurance.

If you are serious, you owe it to yourself and to the public for you to be insured. Despite all the care and safety you have set up for the performance, there is always a possibility of some accident you have never imagined.

Also, if you are insured, you can use it as a selling point to the prospective business. I’m insured for $4,000,000 liability. It can have a dramatic affect in the way business owners will communicate with you and their desire to hire you. It says you take your occupation seriously.
